Do you know what DUI is? Well, DUI stands for driving under influence which is a very common offense in the last few years. Hundreds of people drive under the influence of alcohol in California every single year and they are the ones who hire a lawyer.
This type of offense is a very serious one. If you are one of those who were caught and arrested, then you should know that your license might be revoked, that you will have to pay exorbitant fines and that you might even have to join the community services for who knows how many hours. When the case is a more serious one, then the penalties are even more serious: your driver's license might be permananetly suspended, you might be sent to jail or to rehab. These are all unpleasant, so you have the right to defend yourself by asking help from a specialized lawyer. A recent quiestionnaire showed that most people get fines and some get their license taken away, however, not many actually go to jail.
Last year, the city of San Diego was ranked first on a list of cities with a high number of DUI citations. What this means for any DUI attorney, is that their services would be in a high demand all through the year. It also means that it would not be too difficult to find a good DUI attorney in the city, as they apparently get a lot of practice. Just see the California DUI first offense law, it would be very hard to navigate without a lawyer.
If you do a quick search using "San Diego DUI attorney", the first page alone shows as many as 10 unique law firms and agencies that have lawyers dedicated to drunk driving offenses. We can tell you that not all of them are good, we can recommend Beahm Law.
There are a couple of possible explanations for the high number of DUI citations in the city. It could simply be as a result of people being foolish enough to think that it's alright to drive after knocking back a few drinks. In some instances, this is the case. However, there is one other possible reason. Errors, both human and mechanical do occur from time to time leading to the arrest of people who may not have had too much to drink.
There might be errors on the part of the arresting officer during the administration of the field sobriety test. The equipment used to perform the tests might also be faulty leading to errors in the results and the subsequent arrest of the person involved. Once a person is charged, it is the responsibility of the DUI lawyer to help the defendant establish a strategy to present in court. Some possible defensive approaches include lack of driving or actual physical control of the vehicle by the defendant, no reasonable suspicion to stop, no probable cause to arrest and Improperly Administered Field Sobriety Tests (FST's). It is however, better not to put yourself in such a situation in order to avoid having to face a judge.
