• AHP Questionnaire

  • Questionnaire for collecting expert opinions on the relative importance of criteria, sub-criteria and factors for assessing the sustainability of agriculture in a Kotmale catchment using geospatial techniques.

  • 1. Scope of the research:

    This is the part of my Ph.D. research and objective of this survey is to derive relative weights of the factors under the three criteria such as physical/environment, social and economic (more detail). Subsequently, weighted value will be assigned to the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) combining with Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) to assess the sustainability of agriculture as a geo-spatial approach.

  • 2. Agricultural activities in Kotmale catchment

    Economic activities are spatially interrelated and linked because major economic activities are based on agriculture or agriculture related practices. Tea cultivation has been established as main commercial agricultural activity in the watershed with occupying 39.1% from the total area. Vegetable cultivation and home-garden based agricultural activities are also important economic activities in the research area.

  • 3. Instruction:

    For each pair of components or factors, please express your expert judgement on which component or factor is more important by selecting on one of the scales. If the selected scale is on the left side of 1, then the component on the left side is judged as more important than the component on the right side, and vice versa.

  •  3.1 AHP Scale:

    1 = Equal importance;

    3 = Moderate importance;

    5 = Strong importance;

    7 = Very strong importance;

    9 = Extreme importance.

  • 3.2 Example

    In the example, factor B is judged as strong important than factor A since the selected scale is on the right side of 1, i.e. on the side of factor B. The selected scale of 5 indicates strong importance.

    3.3 Consistency Ratio (CR)

    CR of  Q1, Q2 and Q5 should be less than 10% (CR < 10% means your ratings are consistent)

    How to do it

    1. You will be able to see the URL bottom side of the question, entitled “Please     check your Consistency Ratio (CR) before the next question”

    2. Click on the link

    3. AHP Priority Calculator will be loaded

    4. Assign your vales to the AHP Priority Calculator.

    Please be noted thta survey form allows only odd numbers (1,3,5,7,9). Hence, please do not use even numbers (2,4,6,8) in AHP Priority Calculator when you check the  CR.

    5. Click on “Check Consistency” button and check the CR

    6. If you get CR >10%, please revise your ratings.

    7. If you get CR < 10%, please assign same vale to the given question

  • Please be noted that this survey form will not be used for any purpose other than compiling statistics, so please fill it in fully and truthfully
