    2019 Theme: "Change"

    Change is the evolution of society, of the individual and of the state of mind.

    We embody the shifts that occur in our daily existence-be they subtle, emphatic or catastrophic. Poetry gives voice to the changes, bearing witness to what has been and what is to come.

     

    Open to all Singapore citizens/Permanent Residents aged 15-18 years old.

    Registration is free!

    Medium: Vocal Poetry

    Please ensure that you submit both your

    (1) written poem in Word or PDF formats.
    (2) spoken performance of the poem in a short video (not longer than 5 mins) as an MP4 file or a YouTube link.​

    Language: English​

    Length: Up to 5 minutes of performance time.

    [There is no maximum word/line limit, as long as it may be performed in under 5 minutes, including a short preamble — stating of name and title, short explanation of what the poem is about.]

  • Tip: When submitting a short bio, please use third-person language e.g. "Tom is a currently a student of Yi College and has been a writing poetry since the age of 5. His aspiration is to publish a book within the next 2 years."

    (a) Participation in WRITE AND BURN! 2019 is on a volunteer basis, and I consent to my child/ward's participation in the event.

    (b) If my child/ward mentioned above is selected as a winner in the semi-final round, I consent to his/her participation in the final round of WRITE AND BURN!, to be held at the National Library on Sunday, 25 August 2019, 9:00am-6:30pm.

    (c) Photographs and videos will be taken during the event for use in event publicity, promotional materials and other related purposes. I allow that images of my child/ward(s) be taken or used for the above stated purposes. I acknowledge that copyright ownership of these images belongs to PFS.

    (d) If my child/ward mentioned above is a winner or is selected for inclusion in a publication/anthology, I approve and allow his/her work to be published in the anthology by Poetry Festival Singapore or its designated publisher(s).

    (e) If my child/ward's poem is selected in a publication/anthology, I consent to his/her poem being used for fund-raising activities for Poetry Festival Singapore; not limited to display of poems on public-accessible screens, re-printing of poems, or used in collaboration with other artistic collaborations.

    (f) I hereby undertake and agree to accept any physical risks that may arise from my child/ward’s participation in the Competition. The Organiser of the Competition and the National Library shall not be liable for any loss or damage to property or for theft or personal injury sustained during the participation of the Competition, or for any form of compensation whatsoever.

    (g) Poetry Festival Singapore reserves the right for the final selection of poems.

    (h) I and my child/ward have read the rules and regulations and fully understand its terms and definitions.

  • If you are submitting your performance as a Youtube video, ensure the video's visiblity is set to either "Unlisted" or "Public" before you paste the link below. If your video is set to "Private" we will be unable to view it and process your entry.

    Do note that if you appear in your official school attire in your video and share it online, your performance should adhere to your institution's code of conduct.
