Your pet is being admitted today for a procedure which will involve anesthesia. At Talega Animal Hospital, we use very safe anesthetic drugs and sophisticated equipment to monitor your pet’s heart and respiration. We do not anticipate your pet having any problems, however there are additional steps we take to lessen anesthetic risk. We will perform a thorough physical exam on your pet prior to anesthetic induction. If we haven’t already done a blood test within the past few days, we will do a basic pre-op blood screen, which includes: a Packed Cell Volume (checking for anemia), BUN and Creatinine (kidney function), SGPT (liver function), Total Protein, Blood Glucose (blood sugar level) & Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, & chloride levels). We run these tests in-house, & the results will be available to our doctors prior to anesthesia. In addition to an exam & constant intra-operative monitoring, we also administer IV fluid support & give an injection of pain medication.

PedicureWhile your pet is under anesthesia, it’s the ideal time to trim their toenails. The cost for this is $20 for cats and $26 for dogs.

MicrochipA HomeAgain Microchip is means of permanent identification for your pet & a great way to help your pet to be returned to you should he or she become lost. A microchip is implanted under the skin, which can be read by a scanner routinely used by shelters & veterinary hospitals to identify lost pets. The cost of microchip placement is $68.50. This microchip service includes the microchip, implantation as well as a 1 year membership and registration. Your pet will always be registered with HomeAgain unless you call them directly to make changes.
