As 2019 comes to a close, we are reflecting on the many successes and milestones we have achieved in our work on the Responsible Leather program. We could not have accomplished so much without the generous support many of you have provided us this year, both financially and through your participation– both are of equal importance and value.
Thank you for your commitment!
Here are the results of our mutual efforts 2019:
Establishment of four expert committees who worked throughout the year to determine the requirements for each scope of the tool: animal welfare, leather processing, deforestation/conversion-free (DCF), and traceability (credit trading)
Development of the RL benchmark/assessment strategy
Advancement of the Impact Credits program:
Engagement with ACT Commodities and ChainPoint to begin the development of the Credit Trading Platform
Partnership with the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB), Proterra, and potentially other NGOs to create the “Impact Alliance”
2020 will be the year of putting our work into action and driving impact! Our ultimate goal for this year is to present the final version of the RL program and toolkit at the next Textile Exchange annual conference in Dublin, Ireland.
To do this, we will:
Complete the RL program: finalize draft criteria, pilot, stakeholder feedback, release
Develop tools and resources to support implementation and package them up in the RL toolkit
Expand our website and establish our visual identity
Continue to host virtual and in-person meetings to share our work, and provide opportunities for deeper discussions, feedback, and learning
With your continued support, we are confident we will reach all our goals for 2020. It is imperative that we have the participation and financial commitment of the industry – it is only together that we can accelerate impact. Our team is excited and proud to be working with companies such as yours to work towards the change we all hope to see.
We greatly appreciate your consideration to further fund the completion of the Responsible Leather program.
